I too loved BEFOREIGNERS and OCCUPIED.

I also enjoyed NOBEL which was another tight political drama with Aksel Hennie as a Special Forces soldier

In Dec 2019 I stumbled across Snøfall. Watched the final episodes with my wife (no norwegian at all). We enjoyed it so much that we watched the whole series again Dec 2020. I think this coud be a cult series, a bit like the Snowman film only longer and better. How I wish there was a ‘dubbed in english’ version for my grandchildren to experience and enjoy. I really think it could hit ‘the spot’. Any ideas how we could make this happen.

By the way, I generally love the fact that show and films are usually subtitle rather than dubbed these days. Looking forward to viewing more nrk output.

All the best
David

Beck, with a few excellent Norwegians too. And “Midnight Sun”, the noir series set in Kiruna.

I enjoyed “State of Happiness”, an excellent non-noir account, with so many places I recognised in Stavanger, Sandness & around the area….I lived 5 years up the hill from the old church in Gamle Stavanger. Interesting to see a modern interpretation of some companies, vents & characters I recall from the ‘third of my working life’ I spent in the Oil & Gas industry there. Really looking forward to season 2, maybe even going up to when I was there!

I’m off to Netflix/Amazon/Sky to see if any are showing Beforeigners.

Movies….
“Jackpot (Lotto” if you’re a fan of Lilyhammer….spot the cast in ‘opposite’ types of characters.
“In Order of Disappearance”, the brilliantly black humour movie with Stellan Skarsgaard….NOT the awful humour-free US remake (same director, curiously) with Liam neeson is Skarsgaard’s role
“12th Man”, very good version of Jan Ballsruud’s epic escape….I still watch the b&w original “Ni Liv” (nine lives) version of it, and thought David Howarth’s books on the Shetland Bus & related stories cover any details that didn’t make the films.

I have to call friends in Stavanger/Kristiansund periodically to find out ‘what’s new’ in Norwegian TV, that might find its way to the UK market. It’s also great fun to try to watch without the subtitles & ‘test’ my failing Norsk!

Highly recommend the police drama/murder mystery, Borderliners, on Netflix. It had me on the edge of my seat with its twists and turns, and great acting!

Also “The 12th Man,” (Netflix and Prime) based on the true story of Jan Baalarud, the lone survivor of 12 Norwegian saboteurs captured by the Nazis. The movie tracks his flight from the Gestapo through the snowbound reaches of Norway, ultimately reaching safety in Sweden…thanks to the help of some amazing Norwegian resistance fighters. His ability to survive the brutal wilderness, his courage, stamina and determination, nothing short of mind blowing. Great acting and stunning scenery.

And of course, my yearly Christmas mini series indulgence, the heartwarming Snøfall, on NRKTV. Free and avaiable outside of Norway!

Loved Exit, making me laugh and shudder at the same time…. although could image it being banned on conservative U.K. TV. Occupied is still keeping me “occupied” with its intriguing storyline. Disappointed that there is not going to be another series of Mammon after a superb series 2. Frikjent/ Accused was a favourite. Aber Bergen and Young and Promising or Unge Lovende also makes good Friday night viewing with a glass of wine and snacks. Didn’t enjoy Wisting for its Americanising, arrogant and “super hero gunhoe characters. Monster is worth watching if you enjoy suspense. Beforeigners, can’t wait for season 2. Twin had a good storyline and I thought the actors portrayed the characters very well. Valkyrie was also well acted and had me thinking “what if”? Still to watch the final episode of the River and Borderliner. Oh and Witness is also another series worth watching. YES! I LOVE Norwegien/Scandinavia ♥️♥️📣
