I haven’t thought too much about it but I feel it’s obviously Stockholm. I’m a Finn living in Sweden most of my life, within proximity to Stockholm, so I feel I’m quite objective. Full disclosure: I’m a Swedish-speaking Finn that hates Sweden and Swedes and has spent 8 years outside of Sweden starting from adulthood because of this. My family moving to Sweden when I was a kid was one of the worst things that ever happened to me in my life and it was the start of my ending. It’s still ridiculous to claim otherwise. The city is the largest, has the most tourists visiting, is slightly better known by most people, globally, and most of all is situated in the center of the other potential capitals. I’m basically just re-hashing what’s already been pointed out. For the same reason(s) Riga is the capital of The Baltics. A “capital of Europe” is however a ridiculous concept, and I won’t even try that one.

Gothenburg (Göteborg) is the Scandinavian logistics centre with excellent communication with the existing three capitals (Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen) as well as most populated areas in Scandinavia.

Scandinavia is named after the region Skåne in southern Sweden, which used to be a part of Eastern Denmark. Skåne is called Scania in Latin. The reason why we have a region called Scandinavia in the first place is because Denmark, Norway and Sweden were all influenced by this region.

Lund in Skåne was the capital of Denmark for a brief period of time (roughly 4 years) under King Erik Emmune. It’s also where Scandinavias oldest Archdiocese was established. You’ll find Scandinavias oldest university and school in Lund.

Roskilde was the historic capital of Denmark, “Hafn” or Copenhagen grew because it was in between Lund and Roskilde.

Historically there’s no better option than Lund – says Nikolaj from Copenhagen.
Of course I would still go with Copenhagen! Copenhagen is where Europe meets Scandinavia, and Scandinavia meets the world.

No it’s Copenhagen. The most wellknown, biggest urban population, natural capital and biggest airport. This is not arguable.

In reply to Alexander Amundsen. If, Scandinavia hypothetically, would ever unite, then Gothenburg or any similar place in Southern Sweden would be the most geographical sensible location.

In reply to Finn. Interesting how you pretend you are a "represent" of Oslo. I can almost swar you are a typical stupid person With a lot of inferiority complexes. And where do we find these? In Denmark of course! Copenhagen is neither beautiful nor is it big. It`s actually the samlles Capital in the Whole Nordics minus Reykavik. Copenhagen is not more Capital of the Nordics than Reykjavik is, thats the brutal factts. There is no captial in the scandinaiva. Denmark is much more related to Germany than to the Nordics. It`s only fools that pretend there is a special Capital.

Geographically Gothenburg would be a great place for a capital. It’s in the middle of the most populated area in Scandinavia, the Oslo – Copenhagen “belt”. From Oslo down the west coast of Sweden and over to Copenhagen. Would be about 8-9 million people living in that area. If not more..

Why they haven’t exploited that area for a speed train is beyond me.
