Connecting from an international flight to a domestic flight at Oslo Airport?

Depending on your ticket, airline and departure point, your checked baggage may be transferred automatically, or you may need to collect it and check it in again.

Baggage transfers at Oslo Airport can be confusing, especially for travellers arriving from abroad and continuing to another destination in Norway.

The good news is that many passengers can now use Oslo Airport’s domestic transfer system. This allows you to clear customs and enter the domestic departure area without collecting your checked baggage.

However, the service is not available to everyone.

Can my baggage be transferred automatically?

You may use domestic transfer when all the following conditions apply:

• Your flights are booked as one through journey using an approved airline combination.
• Your baggage label shows your final destination in Norway rather than OSL.
• Both flights take place on the same date.
• You arrive while the domestic transfer facility is open, currently between 7am and 11pm.

Eligible journeys include various combinations involving SAS, Norwegian, °Â¾±»å±ð°ùø±ð and DAT.

Incoming flights operated by airlines including Air France, airBaltic, Atlantic Airways, Emirates, KLM, LOT and TAP may also qualify when connecting to an approved domestic airline.

An important point is that eligibility depends on the combination of airlines, not simply the airline that brought you to Oslo.

How domestic transfer works

After leaving your international flight, follow the signs for Transfer or Connecting Flights rather than walking towards the main baggage hall.

The domestic transfer area is beside gate D2 and is marked in yellow. You can visit the nearby duty-free shop before scanning your boarding pass and passing through customs.

Once through customs, you enter the domestic departure area. Your checked baggage should be transferred to the onward flight without you collecting it. When must I collect my baggage?

You must normally enter the arrivals hall, collect your baggage, pass through customs and check in again when:

• Your flights were booked separately.
• Your baggage label says OSL rather than your final destination.
• Your airline combination is not included in the domestic transfer scheme.
• You are arriving from one of the excluded departure airports.
• You are travelling with an animal or weapon.
• Your connection falls outside the domestic transfer opening hours.

Passengers arriving with an airline that does not participate in the system must follow the normal arrivals route even when travelling with hand luggage only. They must then go through the regular departure security checkpoint before their domestic flight.

Some routes operated by Norwegian and SAS are excluded from domestic transfer. These are mostly seasonal European routes and the list can change, so check the current Oslo Airport guidance shortly before travelling.

Norwegian also advises passengers connecting at Oslo to consult of exceptions.

Check your baggage label carefully

The simplest check takes place when you first hand over your suitcase.

If the baggage label displays your final Norwegian airport, you may be eligible for domestic transfer. If it displays OSL, you will need to collect the bag in Oslo.

When in doubt, ask the airline staff at your departure airport whether your baggage is checked through and whether your specific journey qualifies for domestic transfer.

Avoid assuming that a single booking automatically guarantees baggage transfer, as the airline combination and departure airport also matter.
