When families, schools or agency staff wish to make an Interagency Committee referral, please contact the Boone County Schools Mental Health Coalition (BCSMHC) to discuss this action. Contact Chairperson:

No paperwork is required to make a referral.

• The Committee Chairperson contacts the referring party and parents/guardians to consult, collects referral information and obtains a release of information.

What is the Interagency Committee?

• The Boone County Interagency Committee is a long-standing meeting of representatives from state affiliated agencies that exists to assist families and guardians to learn about and access community support options to help families reach the goals they set for themselves.
• The committee operates to provide a System of Care for youths/families seeking supports for behavioral health concerns.
• A system of care is a broad array of effective services and supports for youths with behavioral health concerns and their families that is organized into a coordinated network.
• The system integrates care planning and management across multiple levels, is culturally and linguistically competent and builds meaningful partnerships with families and youths at service delivery, management and policy levels.

Who is on the team? Standing team members are representatives of the:

• Juvenile Office (JO)
• Boone County Family Resources (BCFR)
• Boone County Children's Division (CD)
• Burrell Behavioral Health (BBH)
• Boone County Public School district (representative from the youth’s home district)
• Boone County Schools Mental Health Coalition (BCSMHC) representative (meeting chair)
• Other agencies working with the family may attend though they are not standing members (e.g. Family Access Center of Excellence (FACE) of Boone County, Central MO Regional Center, Division of Youth Services, Rainbow House, KVC, Compass Health, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Columbia Housing Authority, etc.)
• Families may invite individuals to support them in the meeting.

Why make a referral?

To initiate and gain supports for youths/families who do not have these in place.

• if a youth has special circumstances in his/her life that cause or contribute to a lack of school success
• if the youth has significant issues in the community
• if there is consideration that the family could benefit from comprehensive supports

To coordinate care for youths/families already receiving services through agencies, to:

• deliberately organize care and treatment activities
• share information among all participants concerned with such care
• achieve better, more effective care and utilization of services

When and where does the team meet?

• Meetings are held on Wednesday afternoons, throughout the school year, when school is in session.
• Summer meetings are scheduled as needed.
• Hour long meetings, usually at: 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 3:00 PM and/or 4:00 PM
• Location: Meetings are held in person at a mutually agreed location or by Zoom or other electronic means.
• If an in-person meeting is desired, the chairperson will coordinate the location and communicate with participants.
• Typically, meetings are held at the youth’s home school or at an agency location.
• The Committee Chairperson sends meeting invitations.

What happens at the meeting?

• Discussion occurs to allow the team to share information and determine if services might be provided/revised to support the youth and family.
• The team develops action plans.
• Assignments are made to address the action steps.
• Contact information and parent resources are shared.
• A recap of the meeting is given so that all participants are comfortable with the plan.
• If desired, a follow-up meeting is arranged.

Other things to know about Interagency 51³Ô¹ÏÍøs:

• No meetings are held on school holidays or when school is canceled.
• No transportation assistance is provided by the committee.
• If the parents/guardians have signed a release of information but do not attend, the team has the option to hold the meeting and communicate information parents/guardians afterwards.
• No childcare is available and youths do not attend meetings.
